The Sidney Cooper Workshop No 1

To coincide with The Print Block
collaboration with the Sidney Cooper
Contemporary Print Fair we were
asked if we could provide some
printing workshops in Canterbury.
Over 2 days we held 4 workshops
which proved very popular and we
had some amazing feedback which
was lovely.
These are examples of work by our
first class. The screen printing
taught by Suki and Karen focused
on colour transparency & pattern
making and the monoprinting taught
by Ruth McDonald introduced them
to colour, pattern, texture and
her expertise for mark making.

We would like to thank our brilliant
and lovely volunteers Teresa and
Hannah who worked tirelessly
juggling buckets of water,
hairdryers and a host of other
useful things which were invaluable
in making our workshops run so
smoothly. Also a big thank you to
Hazel and Harriet at The Sidney
Cooper Gallery for being so
supportive and for giving us the
opportunity to teach printmaking
in such a lovely big space!

Sidney Cooper Contemporary Print Fair

This year’s Contemporary Print
Fair at The Sidney Cooper Gallery
in Canterbury has been partnered
with The Print Block in Whitstable.
The exhibition is now open to the
public and it shows a diverse
selection of work by artists who
are using print in a variety of
media celebrating print in its
widest form. This is a selection
of some of the work currently on
show by our editioning artists and
print block members. There are also
some beautiful screen printed textiles
by Collier & Campbell curtesy of the
lovely Sarah Campbell. The show is
beautifully curated and well worth a
visit....well done Suki!

Oyster Festival Workshop

On Wednesday we closed the studio and
ran 2 screen printing workshops using
photographic stencils as part of the
Oyster Festival activity week. Both
adults and children explored ink
transparency and image overlay and
these are some really brillaint examples
of what they produced in just two and
a half hoursA lot of happy printers
leaving our studio today.

The Oyster Festival begins

Luckily for us the Print Block
studio is perfectly placed on
the beach where the Landing of
the Oysters Ceremony marks the
beginning of the Whitstable
Oyster Festival. These are some
examples of work produced during
our week of daily screenprinting
demos by Suki Hayes Watkins,
Maria Clemen, Ruth McDonald,
Robert Clarke, Karen Radford and
textile artist Oywah Chung. We
had members print sales throughout
the week and a beautiful selection
of screenprints by our editioning
artist Paul Bommer. 'Print your
own Pirate flag' was hugely poplar
and we were inundated with children
keen to try their hand at printing.
A big thank you to everyone who
supported us and helped towards
making this a really great Oyster
week!
